All bats are off in Banana Land

Good One Mate - Ripper Tune Boris!  As a good mate of mine might say. It’s election time again in the land of the languid and overly-ripe banana.

Once again the gerrymandered, unicameral and well-greased pork-barrel has been opened. Queensland, long the home of political buffoons; crooks; simpletons and lost causes, is shortly to throw up yet another improbable, unpleasant and colourful mess.

I have only one comment to make about this election of fools.

In the context of this country’s super-critical debate about its energy future, recent media reports have headlined the fact that the present Labor government in Queensland is guilty of gross deception of the public namely: QLD Labor found guilty of hiding govt report that finds an NQ coal power station would lower electricity prices. [1]

In a report by Domanii Cameron entitled: “Ultra-supercritical coal-fired power station in the North is viable”, The Townsville Bulletin detailed the disturbing fact that a Secret report, buried by the State Government, has revealed an ultra-supercritical coal-fired power station in the North is viable, citing the need for new technology to allow for existing plants to shut down.

The said Report and its SWOT Analysis was commissioned by the Labor government, it was undertaken by consultants Energy Edge and provided to the Department of Energy and Water Supply in February. This Brisbane based company is understood to have more than 50 years’ experience across varying energy and environmental markets.[2]

Critically, this company’s analysis, obtained by the opposition Liberal National Party and provided to the Bulletin, has never been released! Hardly surprising given that it stands at odds with the government’s ideological mind-set.

The slime has been exposed.

Herewith a sharp note to all politicians: Irrespective of your personal views on, say, alternative, clean, dirty, green, sustainable, fart or piss’n wind powered energy, the interests of the people, those to whom you promised faithfully to represent, come first. This is called representative democracy. You are servant of your constituents. If your electorate wants you to eat shit every morning it means you eat shit every morning - or you resign. It means you do as your electorate tells you. It’s your job – no one forced you to do it and that’s what you get paid to do. Period.

In the context of the national energy debate the Queensland Labor government has been exposed for telling the people to get stuffed. In this case ideology not the people came first. Instead of releasing the Report for public discussion, as they were obliged to do, they buried it. “We know what’s good you!”

“We know best.

“We don’t have real people at heart - we have our ideological interests at heart.

“We alone know the ‘truth’ – let us get on with it.”

Well go to blazes! This dictatorial attitude is the stuff of closed, totalitarian societies. These are the people who are quite happy to traduce the spirit, the intent and the course of democracy; these are the people who sneer at accountability and responsibility; these are the people who will manipulate all for their own ends. They are liars and they are cheats.

Judged on this matter alone they cannot be deemed worthy to be re-elected to government.

Again, we're in furious agreement. Politicians at the moment put the interests of the people they serve, last, behind their party and then themselves. It's abhorrent.

Abhorrent indeed! An exact and elegant description. Thanks Julian.

The Australian community is in for a world of long overdue pain. It is wholly its own fault for which I have nil sympathy.

Thanks indeed for the comment. I do agree that we badly need to 'clean out the swamp'. Trump certainly stirred those fetid waters.

I agree with the general thrust of your comments but the Australian community believes the governments can deliver without pain and there will be a lot of pain up ahead.

Nice job on the essay John, but regardless of his positions, Dutton is too much a cretin of the past, he also looks like the walking dead. We don't need more career politicians, we need a Trump.
